The CNY Global Grants committee voted to contribute $1,000 toward Project Dignity (Global Grant 2577183) and encourages all clubs and members to consider making a donation no matter the size as a show of solidarity against human trafficking, forced labor and the rape and sexual exploitation of women and children.

Join the fight against this $150 billion-dollar criminal industry - the second largest in the world after drug trafficking due to high-demand and low-risk.

Project Dignity is a two-year grant that will focus on the most vulnerable children and poor families from remote areas of Vietnam where human trafficking has reached alarming levels, impacting approximately 7,500 victims, over 90% of whom are women and children.

There is an immediate need for stronger interventions to combat forced labor and sexual exploitation.

Rotary and its partner World Vision are working together through Project Dignity to combat trafficking of women and children by equipping them, their communities, and local partners with effective approaches to prevent exploitation of the most vulnerable, protect those who have been victimized, and increase access to justice and critical care.

Project Dignity will educate children, youth and parents on what trafficking is and the recruitment techniques traffickers use.  It will facilitate learning on life skills, safe migration, online safety, vocational training and leadership development. Families will receive home visits and support for income-generating activities, which will help them meet children’s immediate needs such as food and medical care.  It will support community-based social protection and referrals while seeking justice for victims.

The Rotary Club of Danang is the project’s host sponsor working in partnership with World Vision Vietnam. The Rotary Club of Sacramento is the project’s International Partner.  The budget for the program is $400,000 – last month $200,000 was raised.  World Vision will match the amount raised – hopefully bringing funds to $800,000. Please consider your club’s or personal donation to the critical project. To learn more or make a contribution online, visit this link.
